Liverpool urged to sign ‘outstanding’ James Maddison as Philippe Coutinho alternative by Jamie Carragher
The Leicester City midfielder enjoyed a terrific debut season in the Premier League last term and has continued his good vein of form with an assist against Chelsea on Sunday.
In fact, since Maddison moved to the King Power from Norwich in 2018, no player has created more chances than him in the English top flight from set-pieces (50).
His dead ball prowess is not his only exceptional attribute as the 22-year-old has shown the versatility and awareness to play in a multitude of attacking positions under Brendan Rodgers to devastating effect.
And Carragher believes his former club should be doing all they can to bring the midfielder to Merseyside in the not-so distant future.
“I think he is the one player outside of the top six who Liverpool should be looking at,” the ex-England defender said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“People have been talking about [Philippe] Coutinho coming back, but obviously that hasn’t happened as he’s gone to Bayern Munich.
