Arsenal defender David Luiz hopes to replicate Chelsea success with Gunners after winning start

The defender helped the Gunners secure a 2-1 victory at home to Burnley on his first appearance since completing his £8million move from Arsenal’s London rivals.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winning goal after Ashley Barnes cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette’s cheeky opener.

Unai Emery also gave a run out to new signings Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe, with Real Madrid loanee Ceballos particularly impressing fans.

However, there were plenty of eyes on debutant Luiz, who was brought in to shore up Arsenal’s vulnerable defence.

And he gave a reasonably good account of himself, however, he was unable to prevent Barnes scoring his third goal of the season after the Clarets striker latched onto Dwight McNeil’s deflected effort inside the six yard box.

This was Barnes’ third Premier League goal of the season in just two games and Luiz admitted he enjoyed going up against ‘top player’ Barnes.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface after the game, Luiz said: “[Barnes] He’s a guy with a lot of quality.

“He’s a top player in great shape and great form and I wish him all the best and it’s enjoyable to play against these types of players.

“They [Burnley] have a style of play with the two forwards inside the box and with long balls and then the second ball too.

“It’s never easy against Burnley, I think they are a typical Premier League team.

“They fight for every ball, they know how to play and they go for the first and second balls, fight for the corners, the free-kicks and everything.

“But I think we understood the game well. We executed our plan very well.”

The Gunners have maximum points from their opening two matches after they beat Newcastle last weekend and this is the first time Arsenal have achieved that in ten years.

And Luiz urged his team-mates to keep their feet on the ground while also revealing his ambitions to do as well at Arsenal as he did at Chelsea, where he won six trophies in two spells.
