New Gourmet Cheese, Charcuterie Board Shop Coming To Somerville

SOMERVILLE, NJ — Somerville locals and co-Owners of Main Street Cheese Jordan Nash and Noah Hunter always loved frequenting cheese shops in Brooklyn and putting together cheese boards together. Their passion for cheese grew into their business.

Now they are opening their first brick-and-mortar location at 92 W Main St. in Somerville, in the space formally home to Slingin’ Dogs.

Hunter said he always loved the environment of the cheese shops in Brooklyn since they were “an inviting, welcoming space” to sample and see a full display of cheese.

“My cheese expertise was very limited when I moved to New York, and I think just that experience of being able to talk to someone behind the counter, try new things, and realize there’s a whole world of cheeses out there that are delicious, and I just became fascinated with the history of cheese making and being able to try different cheeses,” said Hunter to Patch.

He eventually went to Murray’s Cheese Boot Camp to expand his knowledge and competed in the Cheesemonger Invitational in Brooklyn.

In January, Hunter and Nash started displaying Main Street Cheese at local farmer’s markets where they would get inquiries from customers asking for a storefront.

A majority of people enjoy cheese and cheese boards yet their experience of cheeses is pretty limited so Hunter and Nash decided to take the plunge and open a shop where “people can come in and try something and talk to someone behind the counter.”

“We want to provide a more personalized experience and sell those kind of specialty items that go well with cheese boards,” said Hunter.

There will be a grab-and-go section with cheese boards, charcuterie boards, grilled cheeses, and more.

Eventually, Hunter and Nash hope to host classes such as cheese and wine pairings and one-on-one classes on how to make mozzarella or other cheeses.

To help Hunter and Nash achieve their dream and to open before Thanksgiving, they have set up a Kickstarter campaign with a goal to raise $45,000.

“We’re more than just cheese enthusiasts — we’re experience-builders. We want to offer more than just delicious products. With your support, we’ll create a space for cheese classes, tastings, and hosting events that will bring the Somerville community together. Whether you’re a cheese novice or an expert, we’ll make sure everyone feels welcome to explore the world of cheese and meats with us,” according to the Kickstarter.

“We are excited to build that community of cheese lovers and share our passion for cheese with others,” said Hunter.
