Several explosions occurred because fireworks were stored in the structure, which inspired the crew to exercise extra caution while taming the blaze. First Assistant Chief Frank Vasquez assumed command and detailed mutual aid units to assist in the operation, firefighters said.
Mutual aid was provided by Brentwood, Central Islip, Hauppauge and Islip Terrace fire departments while the Islip Town Fire Marshal, hazmat and arson squads were also requested for assistance, firefighters said.
